Advanced Analytics and AI Features

Key Influencers Visual

The Key Influencers visual helps explore which factors are associated with a selected outcome in a dataset.

For example, a company might analyze which customer attributes are associated with higher customer satisfaction.

The visual can compare different factors and present statistical relationships in the available data.

However, an observed relationship does not automatically establish causation. Business context and further investigation are needed before drawing conclusions.

Decomposition Tree

A decomposition tree allows users to break down a measure across different dimensions.

For example, total sales can be explored by:

  1. Region
  2. Product category
  3. Salesperson
  4. Customer segment

Users can select different dimensions to investigate where the value is concentrated or how it varies across categories.

This visual is useful for exploratory analysis because users can investigate multiple breakdown paths without creating a separate chart for every combination.

Smart Narrative

The Smart Narrative visual can generate textual descriptions of report data and calculations.

For example, a report may display a statement about changes in revenue or the contribution of a category to overall sales.

Generated descriptions should be reviewed for accuracy and context, especially when used in business-critical reporting.

Anomaly Detection

Power BI provides anomaly detection capabilities for supported line charts and configurations. These features can help identify unusual changes in time-series data.

For example, a sales report may highlight a month in which revenue differs substantially from the expected trend.

An anomaly is a signal for investigation, not proof of an error or a specific cause.

Choosing Advanced Features Carefully

Advanced features are most effective when they answer a clearly defined business question.

Use Key Influencers to explore factors associated with an outcome, decomposition trees to investigate contributing dimensions, narrative visuals to communicate findings, and anomaly detection to identify unusual patterns.

Always validate the results against the source data and the business context before recommending action.
