Paragraphs and Line Breaks

The p tag is used for regular blocks of text, like a paragraph in an article. Browsers automatically add some space above and below a paragraph.

Sometimes you need a line break without starting a whole new paragraph, like in an address or a poem. That is what the br tag is for.

Remember that HTML ignores extra spaces and line breaks in your code. If you press Enter multiple times inside your text editor, the browser will still just show one space.

<p>This is a paragraph of text.</p>

<p>123 Main Street<br/>

Springfield<br>

Country</p>

The < br> tag doesn't need a closing tag because it doesn't wrap any content. It simply forces the next piece of text to start on a new line, which is perfect for something like an address.
