Favicon and External Resources

A favicon is the small icon you see in a browser tab next to a page's title. Add it with a link tag in the head section, like you do for a stylesheet.

HTML pages often pull in other external resources too, like fonts from a service such as Google Fonts, which you also link in the head.

<head>

  <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="favicon.png">

</head>

Explanation: rel equals icon tells the browser this file is meant to be used as the tab icon. Most browsers accept PNG or ICO formats. If you skip this, browsers will simply show a default blank page icon instead.
