Headings (h1 to h6)

Headings (h1 to h6)

Headings help organize content into a clear hierarchy, much like chapters and subheadings in a book. HTML offers six levels, from h1 to h6.

h1 is meant to be the main title of the page and should usually appear only once. The remaining headings get smaller and less important as the number increases.

Search engines also pay attention to your heading structure, so using them properly, and not just for making text bigger, actually matters for how your page is understood.

<h1>Main Page Title</h1>

<h2>Section Title</h2>

<h3>Sub-section Title</h3>

Note:

Notice how each heading tag has matching opening and closing tags.

Use heading levels to show structure, like main heading and sub-heading, not to control font size. If a heading looks too big or too small, fix that with CSS instead of jumping to a different heading number.
