Linking JavaScript to HTML

JavaScript adds interactivity and behavior to a page, like responding to a button click. You connect a JavaScript file using the script tag, and its src attribute, similar to how images and stylesheets work.

Where you place this tag matters. Placing it right before the closing body tag is common practice, since it ensures the page content loads before the script runs.

<body>

  <!-- page content -->

  <script src="script.js"></script>

</body>

Note: You can also use the defer attribute on a script tag placed in the head, which tells the browser to download the script early but only run it after the page has finished loading. This is a common alternative to placing scripts at the bottom of the body.
