What is Ensemble Learning

What is Ensemble Learning

Ensemble learning combines predictions from multiple machine learning models to produce results that are often more accurate than any single model.

The reasoning behind this is simple. A single model can have blind spots or specific weaknesses, but when several different models work together, their individual mistakes tend to cancel each other out.

Why Combine Multiple Models

  • A single decision tree might overfit certain patterns in the training data.
  • A single logistic regression might miss complex, non linear relationships.
  • Combining different models balances out these individual limitations.

How Predictions Are Combined

  • For classification tasks, models vote on the final class, and the majority decision wins.
  • For regression tasks, their outputs are typically averaged into one final number.

Where Ensemble Learning Is Used

  • Kaggle competitions are frequently won using ensemble techniques.
  • Fraud detection systems combine models to catch more suspicious patterns.
  • Risk scoring in finance often relies on ensemble methods for higher accuracy.
