TCS CodeVita Explained

TCS CodeVita is the trending competitive programming contest hosted by Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) since 2012. It is open to engineering and science graduates from across the world and uses a gamified format to promote programming as a sport.

The Guinness Book of World Records has recognised TCS CodeVita as the world’s largest programming contest. In Season 13 (2026), TCS broke its own record with 146,922 participants, surpassing its previous Guinness title set in 2021.

One important rule — each student can participate in TCS CodeVita only once in their lifetime, so preparation and timing matter a great deal.

Why Participate in TCS CodeVita?

Because the winner gets the astounding title – ‘World’s Best Coder’ along with a Cash Reward of $20K. You can imagine this title adding a massive weightage to your resume!

More to it, the first-round qualifiers will receive Participation Certificates. And, decently paid Job Opportunities at TCS (The World’s #1 Organization; as per 2021 listing) for the successive round qualifiers.

TCS CodeVita Season 13 (2026) — Results and Highlights

Season 13 concluded in February 2026. Here is what happened:

Zhou Jingkai, 21, from the People’s Republic of China, secured the top honour. Vincente Opazo from Chile and Jorge Valdivia from Peru emerged as the first and second runners up, respectively.

Special Category Winners:

CategoryWinnerCountry
Best Women Coder — 1stTejaswini SinghLucknow, India
Best AI Coder — 1stZhou JingkaiChina
Best Emerging Coder — 1stBalashiva SChennai, India

Key highlights from Season 13:

This year the competition saw a new mini competition being instituted. The 30 finalists appeared for an AI-assisted programming competition with an objective to understand the dynamics of Human–AI collaboration to solve complex programming problems. TCS provided the participants with frontier AI models including ChatGPT, Claude Sonnet, and Gemini to derive innovative solutions.

Another highlight of this season was the strong representation of women coders from India. Six Indian women finalists made it to the global top 30, the highest ever across all the editions thus far.

This AI-assisted round is a significant new development — it signals that future editions of CodeVita will increasingly test how well participants can collaborate with AI tools, not just their solo coding ability.

Eligibility Criteria

TCS CodeVita is open to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Pursuing graduation or post-graduation in any stream of Science or Engineering (B.E., B.Tech, BCA, MCA, B.Sc, M.Sc, or related fields)
  • Expecting to complete their course in 2026, 2027, 2028, or 2029
  • Enrolled in any recognised institute across the globe

Rounds in TCS CodeVita

TCS CodeVita has three rounds. You need to clear each round and its associated interview before advancing to the next.

RoundModeQuestionsDuration
Pre-QualifierOnline~6 problems24 hours
QualifierOnline~8 problems6 hours
Grand FinaleIn-person (TCS campus, India)~10 problems24 hours

Your ranking is not just based on the number of problems you solve. It is based on your programming technique and how you perform in the interview that follows each round. The interview focuses on the coding approach and logic you used.

CodeVita is an open-book competition — you are allowed to research and reference material while solving problems. What matters is your ability to apply the right approach under time pressure.

Preparation & Syllabus for TCS CodeVita

Preparation wouldn’t be hard if you’ve been preparing for competitive programming earlier with the basic knowledge. You must be well-versed in at least one of the programming languages mentioned below.

Standard programming languages allowed in TCS CodeVita

Programming Language Compiler Version
CGCC 9.3.0
C++g++ 9.3.0
C#Mono 6.12.0.122
JavaOpen JDK 11.0.11
Perl5.30.0
Python Python 3.8.10
PHP7.4.3
Ruby3.0.0

Most successful participants choose C++ or Java. If you use C++, focus on STL (Standard Template Library). If you use Java, focus on Collections. Python is easier to write but may be slower on problems with tight time constraints.

Before diving into the next section, ensure you’re solid on Python essentials from basics to advanced-level. If you are looking for a detailed Python career program, you can join HCL GUVI’s Python Course with placement assistance. You will be able to master the Multiple Exceptions, classes, OOPS concepts, dictionary, and many more, and build real-life projects.

Also, if you would like to explore C programming through a Self-paced course, try HCL GUVI’s Self-Paced C Programming for Beginners course.

Tips & Tricks to Succeed in CodeVita

  • Pick & learn any programming language.
  • Though Python is easy, most of the participants choose C++ & Java. Using the most used languages is helpful to come up with better solutions.
  • If you choose to use C++, have a grip on ‘STL’ (Standard Template Library) & its concepts.
  • Else If you choose Java, have a grip on ‘Collections’ in Java.
  • Prioritize the essential topics like array, stack, strings, & queues since there is a high chance of getting one question from these topics.
  • Don’t forget DSA(Data Structures & Algorithms). Preparing with the basic standard algorithms will come in handy. At times, questions are formed based on standard algorithms. Identifying the algorithm from the problem statement makes it really quick to solve it.
  • Focus on developing your logic as the problems can be based on implementation.
  • Begin with the brute-force approach and proceed to optimize everything.
  • After following these above steps, you can go ahead with the standard complex algorithms and get familiar with topics like dynamic programming, greedy algorithms, graphs, and backtracking. Cover topics only after preparing the essential topics & basic standard algorithms.

Syllabus to Cover

There is no predefined syllabus for TCS Codevita. However, you can expect 0% to 60% of questions from the below-mentioned topics.

  • Array
  • Queue
  • Stack
  • String
  • Tree
  • Linked List
  • Map
  • Graph
  • Greedy Algorithm
  • Dynamic Programming
  • Recursion
  • Backtracking

These topics serve as essential prerequisites for most of the winners. If time permits then study condition statements, operators, time complexity, space complexity, data types, exception handling, frameworks, etc.

Rewards and Job Opportunities

Performance LevelReward
Round 1 QualifierParticipation certificate + TCS Ninja job offer (₹3–4 LPA)
Round 2 QualifierTCS Digital job offer (₹7–8 LPA)
Grand Finale — Top 3Share of USD 20,000 prize + “World’s Best Coder” title + TCS job offer
Finalists (top 30)Opportunity to intern with TCS Research and Innovation

The top 3 finalists share a total prize pool of $20,000 (approximately ₹17–18 lakh). High-ranking participants also receive direct interview calls and job opportunities from TCS. Over the years, hundreds of participants have gone on to secure roles at TCS, with selected finalists earning an opportunity to intern with TCS Research and Innovation.
