Big Bang Model

Big Bang Model

The Big bang model is an SDLC approach that does not follow any specific process. There is little to no planning involved. Instead, the team just starts by pulling together whatever they need, like time, effort, and resources, and jumps straight into building the software. The whole focus is on getting straight to implementation rather than spending time on structured planning.

What Makes It Different

Unlike every other model on this list, Big bang has no formal planning or structured phases. The team just starts building based on whatever understanding they have, and figures out the rest as they go, relying heavily on trial and error.

Risks and Limitations

Without planning, there is a high chance of building something that does not match what was actually needed. There is no clear timeline, no detailed documentation, and no safety net if requirements turn out to be more complex than expected. This makes it a poor choice for anything beyond small projects.

When It Actually Works

Big bang can work for very small, simple projects where requirements are obvious and unlikely to change, or for quick prototypes and personal projects where speed matters more than structure.
