Educators play the most critical role in preparing students for the corporate world. But how do they stay ahead in an ever-evolving tech landscape? That\u2019s where GUVI\u2019s College to Corporate (C2C) initiative comes in. Between November 25 and 29, 2024,<\/strong> GUVI conducted a Faculty Development Program (FDP) at Kongu Engineering College, bringing cutting-edge concepts like DevOps, containerisation, and CI\/CD workflows directly to the educators.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This five-day program wasn\u2019t just about theory\u2014it blended hands-on practice with live industry case studies and advanced tools to ensure educators were equipped with the skills needed to inspire and guide their students into the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Glimpse Into the Sessions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Day 1: SDLC and Agile Methodologies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The program began with exploring the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), covering its phases\u2014Planning, Analysis, Design, Development, Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance. Educators also dived into Agile Methodologies, learning about Scrum, Kanban, and Lean practices. The session set the stage for the week, introducing the fundamentals of DevOps and its role in Continuous Integration and Deployment<\/a> (CI\/CD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Hands-On Git Training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On the second day, educators got their hands dirty with Git, the industry\u2019s most popular version control system. From initializing repositories to managing branches and tracking changes, participants mastered the tools needed to streamline collaborative development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 3: Virtualization and Containerization<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Day three shifted gears into virtualization technologies like VMware and VirtualBox, leading to the exciting world of containerization. Educators learned the basics of Docker, including building custom images, managing containers, and using Docker CLI commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 4: Advanced Docker Techniques<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With a solid foundation in Docker, day four focused on advanced techniques like Docker Compose for multi-container applications, Docker networking, and security. The session also introduced Jenkins, showing how CI\/CD workflows can enhance productivity and streamline project delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 5: Jenkins, Kubernetes, and Cloud Integration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The final day tied everything together, introducing Kubernetes for container orchestration and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform. Educators learned deployment, rollback, and scaling techniques, giving them the skills to manage cloud-ready applications effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Theory to Practice: Making Learning Click<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This FDP wasn\u2019t just about technical concepts\u2014it was about linking academic knowledge with industry applications. During the sessions, moments of realization stood out as educators bridged gaps between theory and hands-on practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one trainer shared, \u201cIn some cases, when practitioners experienced a problem during hands-on exercises, I was able to correlate it with the theory explained in SDLC and Agile, showing them how these concepts apply in practice. It also helped me refine how the material could be delivered more effectively moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By tackling real-world challenges during the sessions, educators gained clarity on how foundational principles could be applied practically, making their teaching more relevant and impactful for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
